Shop Your Closet | What to wear to a boudoir session | Northern NY Boudoir Studio

Here is an email I get a lot: I am so interested in booking a boudoir session with you but I don't own lingerie, I don't know where to buy lingerie and I don't think I have anything in my closet that will work for a boudoir session. Our studio is a premium boudoir studio so we pride ourselves on providing VIP customer service to all our clients. After a client books her boudoir session with Sheer Lace Photography, we start sending emails to help her prep for her session including her options for pre boudoir session self care, planning your boudoir session day, a whole presentation on what to wear and links for our favorite places to shop.

Let me first say, there is no rule that says you cannot be fully clothed during a boudoir session. Literally no rules, I checked! So pack your favorite outfit that you would wear out for a fun ladies night. You know the one I'm talking about, the jeans that make your butt look good, adventurous shoes and the shirt that's a bit more low cut than you would wear to work. Bonus points if you plan a fun ladies night for after your appointment so you can take that professionally styled hair, impeccably applied makeup and sparkling confidence out for a spin.

Another very important point: You can pair some $3 Walmart undies with anything and I mean ANYTHING. A cozy sweater, your partner's favorite band tee, a button down shirt, sparkly tank top, leather or jean jacket, a satin robe...ANYTHING. The bare minimum we ask for you to bring is matching bra and underwear that fits you well. (Not too tight to dig in to your skin and not too loose that it looks baggy on you, if you need to be fitted for a bra...we have resources for that too!) The goal of this very important point is to bring clothes from your closet that you already love and it will make this boudoir outfit even more meaningful.

The third and simplest point is when you've got nothing to wear, wear nothing! Some of my most favorite boudoir images have been taken are implied nude images where my client is wearing nothing but a sheet. White sheets are a classic look but we also have a few silk sheet options available. We have a variety of items to borrow from the studio closet too! You could show up to the studio with zero outfits and I am confident we could make it work for you!

If you are a visual learner, join The Confidence Community on Facebook and check out this video I recorded in my own closet. I found dozens of outfit ideas and I would not say my closet is a very fashionable place to be, most days you can find me in jeans and a t-shirt.

Ready to book your session? Find our available dates in this calendar. We can't wait to see you in the studio!
