I was really looking forward to Miss D's boudoir session because I had just commissioned my cousin to build me a big, beautiful wall to put my bed against. This wall made me the happiest boudoir photographer in Ogdensburg, NY! I was accustomed to shooting in a tight space or with windows in the way so I was so excited for the freedom this wall was going to provide for me! I thought, "I have finally figured it all out...this session is going to be so easy!" Well...it was and it wasn't
We met, my dog, Penny, gave her oodles of kisses and then we headed down to the studio. She seemed nervous but really excited for the shoot. (I always joke that if you're not nervous for your boudoir shoot, you're probably a weirdo and I don't want to work with you so nerves are a GOOD thing!) She showed me her outfits and I was definitely inspired by them. Then she told me something that challenged me in a way I hadn't expected. She said, "I have a phobia of looking into the camera." My first thought was, "oh man...I'm not prepared for this..." Then my second thought was, "you've got the wall, you've got the light, you've got the bed...you can figure this out."
It was a little slow going to get started, but once we warmed up to each...the magic happened!!! This gallery is one of my absolute favorites and I find myself always picking from it for my marketing materials. (She was so gracious to give me a full model release, thanks again!) I think the reason why I love these images so much is because she is NOT looking at the camera. This gorgeous client taught me that if we do not fear our challenges, we can turn them into our strengths. From this session on, I always incorporate images like this...and of course, her signature pose that I've named after her.
